Happy Thanksgiving!

November 26th, 2010

We know it has been a while…It is amazing how much time a little baby can take up!

Here is the quick update on Finn. He is growing fast. He weighed almost 13 pounds at his two month appointment…it seems like he’s pushing 20 pounds now, because our backs and arms are getting tired of carrying this little tank of a boy. Finn is smiling, cooing or “talking”, he just started arching his back and trying to roll over. He hasn’t rolled over yet, but it probably won’t be long. He’s still full of energy and keeps us on our toes.

We had snow in Seattle the other day and Finn didn’t like it much (neither did the rest of the city, but that’s another story). We went outside and touched his hand to the snow and he screamed, so we’ve got some work to do if we’re going to turn him into a hockey player. We’re heading back to Moorhead over the holidays so hopefully he’ll get used to the cold while we’re there.

Check out the photo page for new photos. These are from the last month. Sorry its been a while…

Skol Vikings!

October 17th, 2010

Finn-VikingsWe watched the Vikings hang on for a win today. Finn was decked out in the jersey he got from his aunt and uncle Kari and Brett. We cheered (or screamed) loud at times, but the “cheers” from Finn didn’t always have much to do with the game…regardless, it was nice to see the Vikings pull it together for a win.

We’ve been pretty house-bound lately, except for a trip to Melinda’s work on Saturday. We went to St. Luke’s Lutheran in Bellevue, WA to visit with folks there and see the community flea market that was going on. We got to see lots of great people there.

Right now, Finn and Melinda are taking a nap while Erik is making dinner and writing this post. Finn keeps getting the “good” mail and all we seem to get these days is bills from the hospital :) Thanks for all your generous gifts…we are all truly blessed to have such thoughtful friends.

We should have more pictures to post soon…just got to make time to do it.

Until next time, Lots of love from Finn, Erik and Melinda.

Rally Diapers…

October 7th, 2010

Finn SnoozingWe tried to get the Twins a win tonight by changing Finn into his Rally Diaper, but alas…nothing seems to help the Twins against the Yankees in the post-season.

Finn is getting quite the personality. He’s smiling back at us, sticking his tongue out when prompted and opening his mouth really wide…it is fun to watch him developing into a little boy.

We don’t have much new to report. Just trying to survive this first month. Finn is still pretty fussy at night and is a ravenous eater. All-in-all we think he’s a pretty special little boy.

Thanks again for all the gifts and well-wishes. Finn gets all the fun mail, all we get is bills…

Talk with you soon,

Erik, Melinda and Finn

Eat, Sleep and Poop

October 3rd, 2010

Finn on a StrollOur lives have evolved, devolved, revolved around these three things for the last three weeks. This is our new Trinity! Finn turned 3 weeks old tonight at 6:50 p.m. We gave him a bath to commemorate the occasion. He’s still not ready for birthday cake…he continues to eat what his mom provides. We took him for a walk this afternoon and snapped a couple of these cute pics. The hat comes from his cousin Katie. It is still too big for Finn, but the way he’s growing, he’ll grow into it very soon.

We spent yesterday visiting Grandma and Grandpa Cox. Finn had two long naps (1-2 hours) while we were there. Erik stayed with Finn, Grandma and Grandpa while Melinda went to the dentist. Finn slept the whole time she was gone!

We’ve been receiving lots of cards, gifts and well-wishes from people all over. Thanks very much for all of your generosity and support. Finn has been busy opening packages and cards….we’ve been making him go get the mail…ok, well, we push him to the mailbox in the stroller.

We’ve discovered that a great way to soothe our little guy is to sing Lenten hymns. There is something about the despair of these tunes that calms him. So, we’ve been paging through the old LBW (green book) and singing or humming the tunes to him. It works, so we’re going to keep doing it. Our poor child is getting indoctrinated into the Lutheran faith at 3 weeks old. What else would you expect from us? We’re starting to think about baptismal dates…Reformation Day (Oct. 31) is on a Sunday this year!!!

That’s all for tonight. Talk with you later….

10 Days…What a Blur

October 1st, 2010

Grandma, Grandpa & FinnWe haven’t posted anything new in about 10 days. My how time flies. In the time since our last post, we’ve had some pretty important visitors. Grandma and Grandpa Steen came to visit us for about 6 days. We had great plans of doing lots of outings, but, Finn just wanted to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa so we didn’t go out as much as we thought we would have. Grandma and Grandpa sure got to spend some quality time with Finn. We’ve put up some of the pictures from their visit if you’d like to check them out.

After the visit from Grandma and Grandpa Steen, we’ve been working on getting into a routine. Finn has a fussy side to him and we’re still trying to learn how to keep him happy and keep mom and dad happy at the same time….we’re still working on this :)

We’ve had some new visitors too! Aunt Renu and cousin Vikram brought us dinner and some great hand-me-downs which we’re getting a lot of good use out of! It’s great to have friends who share because Finn is getting bigger every day.

At the rate Finn is growing, we’ll be moving to the 3-6 month clothes very soon.We had our 2 week appointment with the doctor and discovered Finn is 10 ounces above his birth-weight and he’s already grown 1.5 inches. The doctor said he looks great and we don’t need to see her again until Finn is 2 months old.

We’ve got more to share, but we’re going to save it for another post.
